1. You will receive your voucher via email within 2 business days
2. Open the email and print or download the voucher to your smartphone
3. Present it at the "Exchange Points" listed here to get the services purchased:

• You can also reserve a seat at these offices.
• When picking up, you will need to fill out a simple form (found at JR offices directly in Japan) along with your passport and the "Temporary Visitor" stamp that is applied upon arrival in Japan.
• The Pass will not be delivered without your passport. On the form, respect the exact spelling of first and last names as they appear on your passport.
• Pay attention to compound names, maiden names, etc.

Shinkansen and most ordinary and "special" express trains have reservable and non-reservable seats in ORDINARY class (second class) carriages.
You can occupy unreserved seats by simply showing your Japan Rail Pass.
Seat reservations can be made at no extra charge.
To reserve a seat, simply go to any Travel Service Center, a Reservation Office (Midori-no-madoguchi) at one of the JR stations, or one of the offices or travel agencies affiliated with JR. Showing your Pass allows you to have a seat reservation before boarding the train.
During peak periods it is not always possible to guarantee reservable seats: December 28 to January 6, April 27 to May 6, and August 11 to August 20.

The voucher must be exchanged for the definitive JR EAST PASS within 90 days of issuance.
Once you get the Pass this will be valid for 5 consecutive days.
For example: if you use it, for the first time, on a Thursday, at any time, the Pass will expire at 11:59 p.m. the following Monday.
