When to schedule a visit

Morning

At 9 a.m., opening time, to avoid the queue and start the day with a spectacular view.

Afternoon

At lunchtime to avoid the queue.

Evening

Many are surprised when they discover that the Empire State Building is open until 2:00am - the last lift goes up at 1:13am! Visit the terraces to admire New York's thousands of lights, either just after dinner or late at night: an unforgettable sight. For the romantics, visit Thursday to Saturday, from 9pm to 1am, accompanied by live music from a saxophonist.

Security measures

Active 24 hours a day. The only one you will notice is at the entrance, similar to the procedure at airports.

The following items are not permitted inside the Empire State Building. Do not bring any of these items into the lobby screening area. Confiscated items may not be returned. The following list is not exhaustive, so if you are unsure about an item, it is best not to bring it. Any doubts or questions should be addressed to the security officers on duty.

• All types of weapons, including firearms, ammunition, knives, swords, scissors, sledgehammers, all items that are dangerous or can be used as weapons, are strictly prohibited inside the Empire State Building.
• Glass objects, including bottles, glasses, marbles, etc.
• Alcoholic beverages
• Cans, bottles, flasks, etc.
• Professional cameras, stands and other related equipment: monopods, bipods and tripods
• Sports equipment such as skateboards, skates, golf and baseball clubs, hockey sticks, baseballs, balls, tennis balls, etc.
• Colouring objects such as markers and spray paint
• Musical instruments
• Large parcels, suitcases, trolleys and other similar items.
• Costumes and masks

There are no lockers at the Empire State Building for storing personal belongings.
